Abu Dhabi Police Intensify Pedestrian Safety Measures During Global Road Safety Week

As part of the 8th Global Road Safety Week, Abu Dhabi Police on their X account posted a video focusing on pedestrian safety. The United Nations Global Road Safety Week is a biennial event organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration. In 2025, the 8th edition of this initiative is scheduled to from 12 to 18 May 2025.

Abu Dhabi Police urges drivers to stop completely at designated pedestrian crossings and encourages pedestrians to use designated crossing areas like underpasses, bridges, and signal-controlled crosswalks. This initiative aligns with broader efforts in the UAE to enhance road safety, as seen in recent campaigns by Abu Dhabi Police targeting various road users, including bikers and motorists.

The post reflects ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety, highlighted by measures like smart radars in Abu Dhabi to detect jaywalking and enforce compliance with traffic signals.

As of the latest available information up to May 18, 2025, the fine for not stopping for a pedestrian in Abu Dhabi is AED 500 and six black points on the driver’s license. This measure is part of ongoing efforts to reduce accidents and improve road safety in the emirate.
